10 things I'm going to do in my thirties (life lessons)

Sharing 10 things I want to commit to in my thirties!

Last year, I turned 30 years old! I'm very excited about getting into a new decade and entering my 30s.

To celebrate, my partner Richard actually surprised me with a weekend getaway in Mornington Peninsula where we stayed at the beautiful Jackalope Hotel.

My beautiful gift from Jackalope Hotel!

During the trip I did a lot of reflecting and came up with 10 things that I want to do for myself as I enter my 30s, and I wanted to share these with you. So here’s my list!

1. Posting on YouTube at least once a month

Firstly I am so proud of myself for taking the first step and starting a YouTube channel last year. Now that I’ve got that out of the way, the next step is to focus on consistency and growing my channel.

YouTube is long-form content and there's so much effort that goes into making a video:

  • Scripting

  • Filming

  • Video editing

  • SEO

  • Thumbnail design

  • Promotion

But I know in order to grow my channel it's really important to be consistent and dedicated, so one of my goals is to post at least once every four weeks on YouTube.

2. Reduce negative thinking

We are hardwired to think about negative things more often and I want to shift my negative thinking patterns.

I want to focus more on things that are going well in my life and have more gratitude for things that I already have rather than putting so much energy on things that I can't control and things that I don't have.

I want to cultivate more of a positive mindset as I enter my 30s.

3. Practicing gratitude

Speaking of gratitude, the third thing that I want to do is practice gratitude more often.

I've already started writing down a list of things that I am grateful for, which are:

  • My relationship with my partner, Richard. We are very supportive of each other and we get along really well.

  • My puppy Leo. He adds a lot of joy and fun to our lives.

  • My day job because I learn new things every single day and I'm always getting an opportunity to challenge myself.

  • The suburb that I live in because there’s lots of greenery and we’re spoiled with great cafes, wine bars, and restaurants! I also love living in Melbourne, Australia, and am very grateful for this beautiful country and all the opportunities it brings.

I think it's important to remind yourself of things that you're grateful for regularly. If you don't consciously do that, it's really easy to go through day to day and forget about the good things in your life.

4. Letting go of expectations of others

I think sometimes I have a tendency to have an expectation of what other people should do, and how they should behave according to what I think is right, and I don't think that's the right thing to do at all.

Learning to let go of the high expectations that I have of other people prevents disappointment but it also allows others to just be who they are.

I’ve learned to accept other people as their whole person, including their strengths and their flaws because no one is perfect (including me!).

5. Get physically fit!

I've always been really into health and fitness and used to go to the gym quite often.

I still dedicate the time to exercise 20 - 30 minutes a few times a week.

The older I get, the more it's about looking after my mental health rather than just the way I look. However, I would love to become leaner, build muscle, and just feel stronger and really good about my body.

6. Eating good nutrition

Eating the right foods to fuel my body also strongly contributes to my overall wellbeing. Rather than focusing on being ‘skinny’ or on looks, I want to really focus more on how certain foods make me feel.

I want to listen to the signs that my body gives me after consuming different foods to best support my health and wellbeing.

7. Buy better quality clothes

I want to really cut down on the amount of fast fashion that I buy and instead purchase things that are good quality and will last a long time.

I want my clothes to fit me well and not just be trendy items - a smaller wardrobe with better quality items is the goal!

8. Buy quality furniture and embrace my unique tastes

I'm starting to understand a bit more about my taste like the colors and fabrics that I like.

I’m keen to develop my individuality when it comes to designing my home. I want to be a bit more bold and brave and express my creativity through how I design my home. I want to invest in nicer pieces of furniture!

9. Letting of comparison

It’s so easy to fall into comparison, especially in this day and age of social media, which is not healthy.

The only person you should be comparing yourself to is who you were a year ago, a few years ago!

There's no point in comparing yourself with someone else because they have a totally different life, different circumstances, personality, mindset, and values.

It’s also important to remember that we only see what others choose to show us, so we never know what someone may really be going through or we don’t always see the less glamorous and hard work they put in that got them to where they are now.

10. Start appreciating other’s strengths and stop magnifying their flaws

This can be particularly interesting when it comes to people like family members or really close friends.

It's so important to realise that every person comes with their own strengths and their own flaws, including yourself.

I also believe every person has something good to bring to the world and to their relationship with you. Your relationship with others can teach you many lessons about yourself.

It's about what you choose to focus on. Whatever you put your energy towards tends to grow. So I want to make an effort to focus on the good qualities of the people around me and the positive things they bring to my life.

I hope my little list inspires you to make some positive changes in your life! At the end of the day, it’s about turning off the distractions, tuning in, and listening to what your heart, mind, and soul really need in order to thrive.
